I recently bought a 2nd hand pc off Ebay which was totally blank. I think it was a business computer.
I installed the hard drive and put in an operating system (Windows XP) on it but when it boots up, I have only 4 colours and the lowest screen resolution possible (think its 640×780) and it wont let me change it.
The pc has genuine Windows XP stickers onit so I know it has ran this operating system before.
I tried reformatting it again on another monitor but just the same.
Do I need a graphics card or the monitor drivers?
Yes, you need video drivers (and probably others for sound etc.) that are specific to your laptop. Check the manufacturer’s website and download the drivers you need.
You need graphics drivers. You may even need to pull it apart to find out exactly what graphics card it has inside. If it is part of the motherboard you to find out exactly what motherboard. Then go the manufacturer’s website to download the drivers. If it is a name brand PC like Dell or Acer, then going to the support section of their websites and entering the model number of the PC should get you the drivers you need.
Once you have done this in XP, Right Click on My Computer, then choose Propertied form the list. Now select the hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button and see a list of hardware in the computer. Any devices with exclamation marks or question marks will also be needing drivers.

you need the video card drivers. I imagine that has a motherboard with an integrated video card in which case you need to find the manufacturer and model of the board and go to that site to find the video card driver.
you need to get drivers for your video card.
Try just letting it search the web for a better driver
you will need the drivers for the graphics card or if it has graphics built onto the motherboard you will have to find what graphics card or motherboard is in the computer and contact the manufacturer. Most makers have websites where you can download the drivers
you will probably need to load various drivers, including sound , video, chipset, modem , network etc.Firstly start with the video, check if the system has a graphics card or on board video chip. if its a card check the manufacturer and download the driver from their website. if its on board go to the site for whomever made the board and download all the necessary drivers there.
Your graphic drivers need to be installed again on your PC. To do this put your mother board cd if your graphics are inbuilt else put the drivers cd given by your graphic card provider and then install the appropriate graphic driver.
IF you have not get that than goto ‘My computer’ on desktop and than right click it. from the menu now select ‘properties’ and there under ‘Hardware tab ‘ you find list of hardware in your pc. Now under video and graphics tab you will find a name of device and a sign like ‘!’ And now copy it and past in google search and search it. download the latest driver available and than install that. and reboot. you are done with that.
