Okay so last week my sister applied for an extra position & so she called n everything n the receptionist told her to go the next day which was a Thursday. SO the next day came & she woke up late so then she’s like ehh it was probably a lie so then like about 4pm a lady called her from Actors rep and told her why she didnt make it. SO then my sister told her something dumb. SO the lady is all like okay can you make it tomorrow which was on a friday & so my sister said yeah. So l didnt sign up but l still went with her & after 10 minutes asked the lady in the front desk if l was able to audition & she said yeah sure. So we got there signed up & they gave us a monologue to read but not memorize. So my sister when in first & then came out happy with a paper of their work & a business card where she had to call this guy next next day a exactly the time the card said. So then it was my turn. I did good whatever & then gave me the same paper & card. I had to call this guy the next day too. What did that mean that we both did good? Idk the point was that we called the next day & my sis spoke to him first & he said that the lady put a good word for her. So now the guy wants a head shot of 8×10 & that his going to help her with her resume & then put her in the system. So then my sis told this guy that l was already there with her so if he just wanted to talk to me & he said yeah sure. So l did but with me it was different. He told me to call back in 3 weeks to do a re-read of another monologue with another casting director. SO lm pretty nervious about that.
I dont know though if this is a scam. It just sounds too free like too good to be true. You know. Well has anyone ever gone to this agency? Well l dont even know if its an agency. But is this a scam if yes why & if not why?
Please help me out. Im a college student & l was thinking of dropping all of my classes for this job. But now l want to know what other people have seen or heard.
thanks so much!

do you even know if there is a position available?
Is it going to be for a film, theatre, a series?
Do you know the name of the guy / agency, etc…?
For what you’ve just said, I think that you’re not doing things right. If it’s an agency which usually works/calls castings/has been on the business for some years, etc… it’ll be on the net more likely than not. Keep your eyes open, be sensible, use your head and common sense -which neither you nor your sister seem to have used until now- and don’t take rush decisions because of something which may or may not happen.
If you had missed the first casting like that, I wouldn’t have given you a second opportunity. That’s for sure.
SCAM! They are NOT an agency and only deal with Extra work. You DON’T need headshots for extra work! They will also ask for money upfront. RED FLAG!
I’m an LA Actor giving you the REAL DEAL!

-Reelpros

-Talent to Go
6. Get an Agent
To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won’t see you unless you’re SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading.
You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways:
-Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too.
-Attend a showcase and impress them. By showcase I do not mean scammy conventions like IMTA, IPOP, Proscout, or Best New Talent. I mean legit ones like at Actor Connection, Reel pros, Network Studios, etc.
-Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you’re interested in
DON’T
-Email them unless they tell you to. IT’S UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE!
-Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent’s ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print.
