I am an American citizen but will be getting a temporary work visa to work in New Zealand – I’ve been told this will take about 3 months. In the meantime I have business in Canada, but will need a passport to get into the country. Is there anyway or any other form of valid id I could use at the border?
I’m not from one of the states that allows you to apply for an ‘enhanced’ drivers license, and I’ve heard about a Nexus card.
If someone wants an easy 10 pts, you can just paste this as an answer and it will be ‘best answer’ – I found the ‘correct’ answer myself.
Apply for a passport card in person – it’s and I won’t need to hand over my passport book. Takes 4-6 weeks without expediting it – but I won’t be in Canada for two months. Yay!
As I understand it, you do not need a passport to get into Canada (though you do need satisfactory identification.) The problem is that you need a passport to get back into the U.S.
I came into Canada with my Birth certificate and my Driver licence if you dont have a driver licence any other ID works, I crossed the border driving
you need the PP to get back into the USA – you will have to delay your canada trip
