About 3 months ago I purchased a color laser printer for my start up at home business of pet sitting and dog walking in Northwest Houston and I spent about 0. I was going back to create my expense and income reports because I have not been doing that and I can not find that receipt any where! ARRG! I bought it with my VISA Debit Card so I can probably see the purchase on my online bank records but it will not say “printer” – it will say Office Depot though. Can I use that bank record as the receipt for my business records and in particular for the tax write off for business expense? Or does anyone know if Office Depot can pull up my past purchases from 3 or 4 months ago using my credit card?

When I worked at a major department store and a customer would have a return with no receipt, on of our options was too pull up the receipt record via credit card. Stores keep electronic records, and sometimes you can pull the information from your online credit card statement from the month in which you used that. If you use an Amex Card they keep an electronic copy of the receipt. If you have no receipt, make a photo copy of your statement, then high light the Office Depot Transaction and take a photo of the printer. If you kept the box then take a picture of the serial number or cut it out and copy it. Also do you have a frequent purchasers program, then they would have a record of the entire transaction. You can always make a record of the purchase in a word dcoument. Accidents happpen.. Don’t worry about it.
