I mailed a Birthday Card to my Brother in Vancouver Canada from New York. The Post Office in NY instructed me to fill out a Customs Form, because there was a DVD inside (which is a video clip of me and my Family wishing my Brother a Happy Birthday) I had to declare it as a Gift and I had to write on the outside label what it was. In which I wrote DVD Home Movie. It has been four weeks now and according to the NY Post Office it will get there within 7-10 Business days. I just feel up to this point that it is either lost or stolen, so I mailed my Brother the same exact follow up gift now it has been three weeks. I am not familiar with the Canadian Post Office, why isn’t my mail getting thru? Is it because of the DVD being declared? Is it that suspicious? If I mailed my Brother a regular Package instead of a regular Birthday Card would that make a difference? I know Certified Mail costs more, I thought using regular mail would just get there one way or another. Answers anyone?

Well im from Canada, and this comes as a surprise to me. I have never had any problems in Canada Post, or sending stuff to USA. Ask the post office your sending it from, Im sure they could figure out whats wrong.
Everything. And I do mean everything (especially media) is searched by Canada Customs. It does add a great deal of time, even with all the proper declaration forms. Both US and Canada customs have the right to retain packages for 90 days. Those 7-10 days quoted were an average for letter-mail. Letter mail is not searched as rigorously. the are Also business days. Being that thanks giving was last week, depending upon That will take a few days off. So really you parcel has really only been out there about 17 business days.
To be honest. That really isn’t that bad.
This time of year customs is generally overwhelmed by holiday parcels. Add to the mix the bad log created by the soaring Canadian dollar sending many Canadian shoppers looking for deals south of the border, and you have some unusually, and possibly time consuming conditions.
