Ok so I know you’ll say google the answer but I have and one said to “open it up” I assume this is removing the clear invisable plastic cover thats screwed onto the ds lite console… well how (without damaging it) do i do that?
I have a lot of grime and yuck thats built up over the years between this clear plastic bit and the white console and as it looks yellow its kinda gross and so i want to clean it (as any owner would tbf) I have looked at tutorials but they have said “DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!” which i thought was rather useless… someone said they put a business card or something down, having a business card right next to me i tried but it doesn’t fit!! so yeah, that kinda blew one theory
any help? thanks
LOL!!! it’s me that was funny about tipex!!
cover might help but i didn’t think of that when i first got it years ago, i’ll be in town next week for the job centre so will ask in GAME there (thats where i got it from) and see if they have any suggestions that is if nothing else works
Perhaps try taking it back to the place where you got it (if you cannot remember, somewhere where they sell nintendos) and ask them if there’s anyway to open it or if they could do it for you.
But I’m presuming you want to do this from home right? Maybe try something like poking a needle or paper where the grime is. This may help remove some.
Or try watching videos on youtube on how people take nintendos apart. (the complete thing, then try narrowing it down to ‘taking out the screen’) I know you’ve already tried this, but you may find one!! But DON’T begin taking the nintendo apart until you find a video on how to put it together.
If none of that works then perhaps try buying a cover. You can buy covers for them with cute patterns on from ebay. They’re stickyback covers that are specially made for Nintendos. I have one on my DS lite of hello kitty
Personally, my DS lite has never built up dirt, but maybe the cover helps.
I’m not sure if any of this will work but if it doesn’t, the only last thing I can suggest is tippexing your nintendo where all the dirt is. XD it scratches off if you go wrong!
Ok don’t do that… :S
Good luck x

use a Cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol. rubbing alcohol drys very quickly and and is safe to use on Electronics if you still wont to open it up do so cheerfully and on a uncluttered Table you will need a small flat head screwdriver if you don’t have the proper one already most ppl don’t any will as long as it fits and get a grip I’ve opened up my DS many times and cleaned nearly every system with rubbing alcohol it works wonders.
hope this helps.
If you just want to clean the dirt around the edges, you can take an index card and stick it between the plastic outer shell and the inner part and slide it along.
But the best way, as others may have told you, is to open it up. Since you’re not messing with the components on the inside, its really easy to do and you probably won’t mess anything up.
You will need the special tri-wing screwdriver that most Nintendo products require, a small phillips head screwdriver and a small flathead screwdriver (like the ones that come in glasses repair kits).
For the top screen, open your DS. Take the flathead screwdriver and pop out the four little rubber pads that surround the top screen. Then take your phillips head and unscrew them. Now you can slide off the top plastic piece on the outside; you may need to use the screwdriver to pry it off. You can clean it now. Then just reverse the process to put it back. Remember that the top plastic piece SLIDES back on.
For the bottom you have to use the tri wing screwdriver to remove the screws on the left side and the screw in the cartridge slot. There are 2 rubber pads on the left and right of the cartridge slot, pop them out and remove the screws. Then unscrew the battery cover and remove the battery. Take out the screw in the bottom right with the tri wing and then there are 2 more screw to be removed in the battery compartment. Now make sure that you took out the dummy cart (that goes in the GBA slot).
You can take off the bottom half of the DS and clean it.
When putting the bottom half back, make sure that the plastic volume slider and the power slider on the oustisde case line up with the sliders on the inside.
hope that helped. there are also tutorials online that can help you take it apart
