Yes, it’s true. In L.A. County it’s estimated that nearly 25% of the work force is illegal.

    Illegal immigrants?
    Or legal immigrants?

But either way. Yes, there are MANY many many people working for businesses without green cards. People hire these people because they can pay them under the table, and they can pay them a lot less money.

It is illegal, and it is happening.

    Yes.

There are legal immigrants who are working without green cards. They have temporary work visas instead. (A green card grants you permanent residence in the US. A temporary visa grants you temporary residence in the US.) I doubt that there are many legal immigrants who are working illegally, though.

There are also illegal immigrants who are working without a green card or a work visa. This happens one of two ways:

The first way is that the immigrant uses information stolen from a US citizen (social security numbers, etc) in order to obtain a job. The employer is unable to check whether or not this information is valid, so they may not know that the employee is illegal.

The second way is that an employer hires illegal immigrants purposely. The immigrant gets paid under the table. Many illegals hire out as day laborers. Basically they stand outside of a hardware store, and contractors, construction companies, landscapers, and people who just need a hand pick them up and pay them $75 or so to help them out with simple physical work for the day.

Sometimes businesses will also hire illegal immigrants as regular workers. They usually do this in order to take advantage of them. These businesses will pay the illegals way less then they would pay someone here legally, if they pay them at all.

The cleaning company at my last job ran a scam with illegal immigrants. They’d hire illegals from Eastern Europe. The immigrant would work there for a few weeks and then quit, because the cleaning company refused to pay them. So the company basically got free labor. (Being illegal, the employees couldn’t complain to the Department of Labor or sue the company, since doing so would get them kicked out of the country.)

VERY true. A under the table wage of $9 equals $15 of ordinary wages. The illegal aliens, however, are demanding about $12 from what I understand which is equal to more than merely 15 an hour. And doing well by the way. I suspect there are a lot of instructions from Mexico City too.

Hell yeah! It happens all the time and they don’t pay taxes! It’s BS and needs to be stopped!
