Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve gotten half a dozen or so emails from Mailer-Daemon@AOL.com saying that my emails have been returned but I never sent any emails to begin with. What’s going on? Is somebody hacking, hijacking, or faking my email account or something? In my “sent” folder, there is no record of the returned emails ever being sent.
I tried resolving the problem by changing my password to something more secure, but I still ended up getting another “undelivered mail” email.
What can I do to fix this problem? I can’t delete my email account–I use it for my business and it’s on my business cards. If it makes any difference, the account is through Apple [myemail@mac.com].
Can anyone help me? I’m trying to start and run my own business and the last thing that I need is someone sending spam using my email address. Also, can I get into trouble because someone is faking my email address somehow?
Here is how the emails read: [note: I blocked out my address and replaced it with [myemail@mac.com].
BTW: There were no attachments in the email. Also, I noticed that in the 12th line up from the bottom the sender’s name is listed as “beth wilkerson”, her surname isn’t even close to mine but “beth” is my middle name and that’s part of my email address. I don’t know if that info is important or not, but I thought that I would include it here. Any help or insight would be much appreciated and I just want to say thanks.

Well, Red, it sounds like your E-mail account has been compromised, or you picked up a virus.
Immediately have your computer checked for a ‘bug’ or ‘bugs.’ If you have the proper programs, do the scans yourself, if not you need to take your computer to some one who can.
Once it is clean of pests, install a firewall and an anti-virus program if you do not have one yet.
I strongly recommend a program for malware and adware also.
After you finish this, then go in and change your password, using a good strong one.
Also, check your account information and make sure no information was changed, if it was change it back immediately.
Then, you will have to inform your contacts that it was not you sending that mail, but they need to check their computers in case they were also infected.
I’ve just experienced the same problem. It’s a spam mail being sent out using your contact list – which means the account has definitely been compromised. I know this because one of my other mail accounts was on my contact list so I managed to receive the spam mail on that account. I’ve changed the password on the account now, but the damage is done. I’ve sent a follow-up message to everyone on my contact list not to open any mails from my account any more, and will be abandoning it for their safety.
It’s strange though that so many of these are occurring just in the last 12 hours or so. I’ve noticed a lot of other queries like this one.
This is actually very frustrating, I have been getting the exact same thing for about the past week and yahoo is of no help just more automated responses that don’t help at all! I have changed my password so many times and it does nothing still get the same maeler demon messages, although as far as I know the Spam that is being sent from my email is not being sent to my contacts but to people I have never heard of before??? I too have a business and do not want to end my account. I tried calling yahoo customer care but they were no help either here is the number good luck if you want to try. I tried filling out the online tech support form too but never got a response???? Or at least not from a real person. Most of the emails supposedly that i am sending look exactly like yours but they say:
“please click on this link to view my new pics” and then following with a spam link
as well as
“Want to be better in bed” again with a spam website link
I would love to know the answer to this i have received hundreds of these undeliverable messages?? and they never show that there was something sent in my sent folder very weird!!!! Any help out there people, i wish everyone good luck with this problem i am getting fed up!! Oh almost forgot I am also being signed up to these weird sites that i have never been to before like world of war craft and some other weird sites. If it is your email that has been compromised why does changing your password not work????
