She needs attention. Sounds like you have entertained her white lies in the past. So why should she not continue to tell you more….?

tell her you might of seen him an that you need the detectives phone number to report what you saw…

then if she gives you a number call it and verify the story…if she hesitates and doesn’t get you the number then you will know it is a lie.

as far as who would go to the house—

the officer assigned to work in that area for the day
    victims advocates
pretty much any officer involved with the case

Some times truth can be stranger than fiction.

One way that a detective could have gained this information would be if the prison had heard of this situation, they could have provided the information to the police since the institution would not have her information.

Prison officials learn of many things that inmates are planning, through phone calls and even via the mail. So yes some thing such as this is possible. Inmates plot and plan many things, sad but true.

She may have felt that she could confide in you, it’s really hard to say why she told you.

It could be a Detective, Sheriff, Police Officer or even the FBI, that could be given the information and they would in turn pass it on from there. It depends on who the Prison may have informed if they knew of a situation such as this, should they have heard that a person could be in danger. For example some areas only the Sheriff work out of where as other areas the Police cover those areas. Certain entities only work out of certain areas. It all just depends.

As to weather to believe her or not, I’d say take it with a grain of salt as you really don’t know if it’s true or not. Since she has some what of a past background of telling tales so to speak try not to get to wrapped up into all of it.

You may want to stay away from her, if she is really in danger you may not want to get your self involved. You may want to tell her that until things are better your not so sure that you want to hang around her and put your self at risk. This may tell you weather she is telling you the truth or not, besides how are you going to help her fight off her ex prison boyfriend. She seems to believe that there is a Detective on the case and involved.

Tell her that you not going to be able to hang around her until he is totally gone and not going to be a problem, let her know that your worried about your own safety. Then you will be able to see what she says or does, if she suddenly says that the problem is all taken care of then you will know that it was just a line that she was handing you. If it’s true then she may start freaking out but she will understand your concern.

This may be the only way that you will know for sure. God bless you, I hope this helps you out, I my self have been around people like this and I finally had to just stop being friends with them. They just didn’t know when to stop telling lies.

Every state has some type of a victim/witness notification program. With the program the victims and witnesses of crimes are notified of any changes in a suspects/inmates status. An inmates release is something they would be notified about. There are usually case workers assigned to that kind of job, but it’s not unheard of for the police to do it themselves. So it’s entirely possible this happened.
