ok im a single mother of one and i have been struggling like none other lately with money. My check will be deposited into my bank account tomorrow at 3 pm. My bank will not charge an overdraft fee if you bring the account back up to a positive balance within the same business day. what I am wondering is this, I currently have 2 dollars in my bank account. I will not have enough money to get to work int he morning. I was wondering if I used my debit card today (using the credit option rather than debit) after the close of business will that transaction count towards tomorrows date? I really just cannot get overdraft fees but at the same time im like so stuck.
Another option is writing a check at jewel for a little over the amount i spend. My fear with that is that they will do the transaction like a debit transaction or even worse they will knwo that as of riht now the funds im spending are not available and it wont go through (so embarrassing). Does anyone know how that works at jewel? if i write a check there do they runi t through to make sure the funds are already available or do they just do it the old school way and let you write the check and then it posts about 2 to 5 business days later? I have to figure this out or im not getting to work in the morning!
Sorry to hear your plight, the simplest way of doing this is borrowing a few dollars from a co-worker and pay them back on pay day.
If you right a cheque to Jewel (who/whatever that is) they have the right to cash it the same day, they may or may not, it’s not worth the overdraft, not to mention NSF fees.
I know how you feel. Payday can’t seem to get here fast enough, no matter how hard I try to save. But I do that all the time, using my debit card the day before payday (as credit) especially for gas. In fact I did that this week. On Monday, I was running on fumes. So I pumped gas after work, using it as credit. Today is Wednesday and it’s payday, when I checked my online banking this morning, I had the amount of gas purchase as a “pending transaction” but since I got paid at midnight, I don’t have to worry about getting charged an overdraft fee. I also used my debit card as credit to buy me lunch yesterday (Tuesday) & it hasn’t appeared as a pending transaction yet.
Sorry about you luck… I’ve been there. But a debit card is a debit card making no difference if you use it as a debit or credit card.
