I have taken a picture of my car and want to cut the car from the background and use the picture of the car for a business card.
Using photoshop CS4 I cut away the background using the ‘lasso’ tool so just the car remains, with a square checkered background behind. When I save it as a jpeg and put the image in Indesign the car has a white square background behind it.
Does anyone know how to get the image to just show the car only when I use it in Indesign?

Ok so when you cut out the car you should have the car and then a white square behind it. look over at the layers pallet and see if there are 2 layers. if not if the one that says background with a lock next to it. drag it to the new layer icon at the bottom. then delete the background layer. that makes a copy of the background layer so it isn’t locked. now lasso it again. select the magic wand tool and right click and click select inverse and click delete. you should have a checkered pattern behind the car. crop it so the car takes up almost the whole image and then ctrl+shift+alt+s to save. select gif and check transparency
Are you selecting just the car? Use the quick selection tool to select just the car then option, command, J to put the car in it’s own layer. Delete the background layer and save. If the edges of the car look rough use the refine edge command to smooth it out.
